Cooking up a Storm for Charity

CSI

Thousands of school children in South Africa do not have the luxury of a nutritious daily meal.  Malnutrition is the ‘silent assassin’ responsible for approximately half of all child deaths worldwide. At a national level, stunted development remains the most common nutritional disorder affecting 1 out of 5 children. In line with their brand commitment to empower our country’s youth, Isilumko Staffing and Isilumko Media recently joined forces with AVIVA African School Feeding Scheme through a CSI initiative to assist this worthy charity in their efforts to feed 36 children daily at a local Cape Town school.

The socially aware staff at Isilumko take turns to put together a tummy-warming meal once a week to feed children at West Riding Primary School in Table View, Cape Town. Cooking up a hearty stew or nutritious soup is only part of what they give back through this CSI project, as the real reward comes in the form of the cherished experiences the Isilumko staff have shared with the children during their playtime after lunch.

Having been on board since September 2010, the staff are eager to continue well into 2011; and will hold these short moments with them for many years to come. As one such staff member Lisa Kropman, Client Service Manager at Isilumko Media says: “It was so wonderful to give back and spend some time with the gorgeous kids of West Riding. I would definitely like to visit the kids again sometime soon. What a rewarding experience”.
